Juan Méndez Varas is a Spanish composer and pianist with advanced degrees in piano and composition by the Real Conservatory of Madrid. His background and style come from diverse musical influences: Henri Dutilleux, William Schuman, Roy Harris, Paul Hindemith, Joan Albert Amargós, Joan Ginjoan, José Luis Turina, Manuel de Falla, Félix Santos, Lyle Mays, Keith Jarrett, so that we can say that XX century symphonic music, American symphonic music, contemporary jazz,  Spanish music, and some of his teachers that have been referred before, have been  essential in guiding his career.

His music has been performed and commissioned by ONE Orchestra (Orquesta Nacional de España), OSPA Orchestra (Orquesta del Principado de Asturias), Cadaqués Orchestra, BRNO Philharmonic, Ampurdá Chamber Orchestra, Grupo Círculo, and also has been awarded by SGAE Composition Contest, Evaristo Valle Composition award, BRNO Philharmonic, Busan Maru International Music Festival and runner up in the Tampa Bay 2018/09 orchestra award.

At present, Juan Méndez serves as a professor of Harmony, Counterpoint and Composition, also does extensive work in TV, radio music and commercials.
